Year 7 Transition Program
Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and at Wollert Secondary College, we are committed to ensuring every student begins their journey with confidence, support, and connection.
Our Year 7 Transition Program is designed to help students settle in, make friends, and feel ready to thrive from day one.
Our program is tailored to support students, families, and primary schools through every step of the transition. We focus on establishing strong relationships with both the families and students, and creating a sense of belonging before the school year begins.
Program Highlights
- Primary School Connections: Our Transition Team works closely with local primary schools to understand each student’s learning needs and strengths.
- Orientation Experiences: Students participate in engaging sessions to meet teachers, tour the college, and connect with new peers.
- Term 4 Transition Activities: Workshops introduce students to school routines, key subjects, and wellbeing supports.
- Family Partnership: We keep families informed through information evenings, newsletters, and personalised communication to ensure a smooth start.
Key 2026 Transition Dates (Victoria – Department of Education)
- Tuesday 21 April 2026 – Primary schools distribute the Year 6 to 7 Placement Information Pack to parents and carers.
- Friday 9 May 2026 – Families return the completed Application for Year 7 Placement (2027) to their primary school.
- Tuesday 28 July 2026 – Families are notified in writing of their Year 7 placement offer for 2027.
- Friday 7 August 2026 – Closing date for parents to lodge a placement appeal with their preferred secondary school (if applicable).
- Tuesday 25 August 2026 – Secondary schools confirm placement acceptances with primary schools.
- Tuesday 8 December 2026 – Year 7 Orientation Day at Wollert Secondary College, where students meet teachers, explore the campus, and experience secondary school life.
